I KNEED STARTER HELP!!!!!
I am working on my fathers 460 omc,
it has a weired solenoid problem it wants to stick...
Last season at storage it had a starting problem so replaced the solenoid and saw that the battery cables were poor.
this year I fixed the cable ends and replace the batteries.
works great but after 10 or 20 test cranks it wants to stick and continue cranking, or running ...
I tested the ignition switch and it seems to wok perfectly.
When the solenoid sticks it is internally shorted even after every thing is disconnected, smack on it it woks fine for awhile.
So I replaced it a few times. same thing, even ran a ground to it. n f g ..
Help please any advice???
thanks tom.

Still sounds like a solenoid.
Why are you test cranking it so much , Are ya getting the starter hot doing that?

Buy a name brand solenoid. There is a bunch of cheap crap out there right now. I would use Cole Hersee or Prestolite only. then make sure all cable connections are clean and tight. check battery, If it is more than a couple years old, replace it, not worth taking a chance on.
