Von Bongo- Were you exagerating in post #1 when you said that if you let go of the wheel, it would go full lock?? As Sutphen 30 asked, did you do something or have somebody work back there? I have to assume that this is sometning that just developed. If you're lucky it's just a tie bar lock nut that loosened up. Measuring the toe will tell you everything. You said the skegs are staight and plumb. If the toe is close, then I'd look at the gimbals, etc. I'm not going to debate toe in vs out. If you do a search here, you'll see a little of both as well as recommendations to ask your builder for their recommendations. My speedies are toed in 1/16". Let us know how you make out.

Vonbongo just got this boat and I'm pretty sure its the first time he's driven it. I'm about 99% sure he had a survey done.

The orbital valve ( helm) should stop moving
once you quit turning the steering wheel.

To me, this sounds more like a steering
valve issue.

Good point, I talked to a friend of the prior owner today and said they never had that problem but I am thinking that it is a helm or air in the lines or something. Yes when you turn left you can feel the pull on the wheel to continue left and if you take your hand off the wheel it will continue to turn itself more left to full lock.

Any other possible ideas.

Sounds like air in the cylinders. Not sure what would make an orbital helm continue to turn never heard of that. Are you actually seeing the wheel turn or is it a figure of speach??

When running if I turn to the left say 1/8th of the wheel turn then stop I feel significant pressure pulling the wheel farther left. If I let go it will continue on its own.

I am not sure how else to explain it.

When I turn right and say 1/8th wheel turn if I feel no pressure on the wheel to keep turning and if I take my hand off it doesn't start turning the wheel on its own.
