Default I need to add a couple ounces of gear lube, can I do it from the top vent?

I have Alpha Drives and I removed the drain to see how clean the lube was and it was like new. Now I need to add a few ounces that came out the bottom back to fill it up, can I add the lube through the vent at the top?

Thanks
Rich

Because it is an alpha I would do it from the bottom.
You will lose a little more when you open the fill hole back up. Don't open the vent hole (top) until you have the pump on the fill hole.
Then open the vent hole up and pump until the fluid comes out the vent hole. Pump slow. Wait a minute. Close the vent hole and then remove the pump. Quickly close the fill hole.

That's how I would do it.

Cobras can be topped off from the top because they have a third hole.

Alphas I would do from the bottom.

My 2 cents.

Good luck.

As long as you know how much you lost and the reason you lost it there is no reason you can't fill it up from the top. NEVER EVER fill an empty one up from the top. Just topping it off is fine. I like to give the prop a little spin to try to relieve some of the air bubbles that might be in there when I top one off.
