Have wobble in drive, Saginaw to Brazil control valve swap
Can I replace my 1988 Saginaw steering control valve to a new Brazil style valve.
I have wobble in my steering wheel at around 1500 rpm or when I am getting on plane. I can feel that the drive is bouncing side to side. once I am on plane it if fine.
I currently have a imco single ram setup.
Last year when I re installed the motor I accidentally hooked up the hydraulic lines back wards. The Imco ram and the steering wheel were fighting each other until the steering cable snapped. It only took about 10 seconds.
I installed a new helm and cable and thats when I noticed the wobble.
I proceeded to pull the gimbol ring apart and made sure everything is tight.
the only thing I can think of is that the control valve on the ram is shot or damaged when I reversed the lines . What else could it be?????
What I can tell you is that while the boat is on the trailer I can push the drive side to side , But on my friends boat with the same Imco set up with a Brazil valve you couldn't do that.

Re: Have wobble in drive, Saginaw to Brazil control valve swap
according to imco the saginaw valve is the better one, merc used them on there high performance setups, the brazil valve does the same thing as the two fittings that are in your system now,my dual ram i just put on my sonic now on the trailer if you try to rock the drive side to side you move the whole boat,if it were me i'd be looking at your external ram first, maybe the seals are shot.how old is the system?maybe somebody has somemore input????
