Your probally gonna spend about $2000+ for the transom assembly in addition to the cost of the drive.....Also you have to buy the water pump and pulleys since the Alpha has the built in impeller/pump and the bravo uses an engine driven pump. best case is probally 4000-5000 for a used set up.......

I have an 87 Pachanga 32' with twin alpha's and am considering an upgrade as well. I figure that the drive conversion from alpha to bravo right around 10k, using reman parts. If i can avoid this procedure, I will, but the thought of losing a drive while 20 miles out doesn't sound like fun.

BAD-HABIT, you say that an alpha wont handle a 383. What if it is a conservative 350hp, 440lb/ft model? What do you figure the upper torque limit of the alpha?

Didn't mean to say it won't handle a 383....Just that torque kills the Alpha a WHOLE LOT more than HP. A 350 will be somewhat easier on the drive....I couldn't really comment on the torque but 440 is probally close......I run A simrek shower and synthetic lube.

I think I have read that running twins is easier on the drives also.
