New water pump NO RPM"S....HELP...Lost 10 mph!
Mechanic replaced water pump on the front of 454 and now the boat has no rpms. Well, before the boat would turn 5000-5200 rpm's...Now it dies at 4400. Lost 10-14 mph and boat
struggles to plane. Drag Rolls over instead of jumping on top.
It has to be something simple!? I need help. Forth of July weekend and tons of boating events...

Some 454'2 had a mechanical fuel pump that mounted to the seawater pump housing. If the belt for the pump is sliping the fuel pump will not work. If you have this set up, check the belt tension.

Yes, it does.
It is an 88 454 Magnum. I am pretty sure the fuel pump is
on the left side facing the engine.
Boat will hit high rpms when not in gear.
But under load, it gets to 4000 and then it struggles to
get to 4400 rpms.

I do not think so. Would he have had to pull them
to replace pump. Mechanic is GONE for two weeks so I am
shooting in the dark.
Last week, he did putting new plugs, wires, etc...
Boat ran like a top. Had to pull off throttle to keep
from going up to 5200-5300.
And he rebuilt carb. Boat ran the best it had run
in a long time.
Then I noticed water dripping down the front of the
motor.
