A quick question for the engine guru's
On a gen 6 502 block how many of the three hex plugs behind the front cam sprocket have the oiling hole in them? And which ones? Also could some one here fax me the instructions for a rollmaster timing chain and gears? I am thinking about advancing 2 degree.....

i cant seem to find the instructions on-line and i want to make sure i am setting git up correctly
Also i have the chance to upgrade to a brodix intake and i am wondering what that will do for my top end? I was struggling a little with the 5400 plus rpm. i could only do it with 2 people. this was pushing me high 80 low 90's i have a 540 that i just redid the oiling on, and reground the crank. i just got it together tonight and i am wondering what that will do? I am currently running a strip dominator intake( yes i know it is junk) and afr 315's.....

Dart, Brodix, Edelbrock and Merlin all come to mind when intakes are mentioned. Any of these are supposedly better than the Holley. I personally don't think any of the above manifolds will create a noticable power increase over the Holley you are running. Been there and done that. Maybe 10 HP.

Re: A quick question for the engine guru's
thanx Craig........ i looked at the curves on the DD program and I was hoping to bump my torque up a bit. in the upper 4's to mid 5,s and this would do it.... + 2 on timing and the VE really goes up to a point over 103% with a dual plane air gap.... (supposedly) i am also not quite getting to my target rpm except with two people and no fuel. so with these two mods i am looking at a 58 hp gain in mid range and only a 3 hp loss at the peak(just moving it all down) rpm at 6k.
also anything on the plugs behind the cam gear? i went .0003 tighter on the rods and mains with crank grind so i am hoping between that and all the new lines/sweeping elbows/ new cooler my oil lbs will be better. I got a bunch of new lines and elbows but i also radius all sharp edges and opened them up where i could which was allot of boring/die grinder work. Every thing is at least .575 now and the cone shaped cup for the bottom of the oil filter pad relocate has 4 holes instead of 2.
Expensive repair for a relatively small problem!!!
Ain't boating fun

I really don't know the answer to your oil plug question. As for advancing the cam to move peak torque up I would be skeptical of what DD is telling you. Normally advancing the cam does just the opposite and retarding the cam moves the power up. Only changing it 2 degrees probably will not make a noticable differance. I personally think if you have the motor out it would be very benefical to have a cam custom ground to work better with your AFR's. I have heard a lot of good reports about the custom designs RM Builder has done for other board members. Good luck!!

Re: A quick question for the engine guru's
As mentioned, quite a bit of oil will flow out of the front cam bearing and onto the cam gear. During operation this will get slung out onto the chain and most likely provide enough lubrication. If you want a little more for safety, I would not run anymore than 1 holed plug.
