My new to me 88 Donzi has a wobbling crank pulley. Motor was just rebuilt by previous owner. It's a '97 454 mag carbed motor. I want to replace the harmonic balancer and crank pulley to see if that straightens it out.
Where's a good place to buy one? Anyone know the part numbers? I don't have a manual for the engine yet.
Will a car balancer work, or do I need the mercruiser part?
Thanks.

Verify that one or the other is the problem.
Is balancer coming apart?
Is pulley bent from mishandling?

I don't know yet. I plan to order the pulley and balancer before I take it apart so I have as little down time as possible. If I don't need one or the other, I'll return it.
BTW- where can I find the serial number on a 454 mag? I looked all over but couldn't find it.

Dyno may have a couple of spare balancers from his Gen V 454 rebuilds. Should be the same as yours. PM him if you're interested.

Fixed the problem. Crank pulley was a few hundredths too big to fit into the harmonic balancer, so it sat crooked. I filed the ring down enough to fit into the balancer and it spins straight now.
