I would check it . it's easy to mix them up. Put the water hose in the sea strainer block off the side going to the drive/outside of the boat and turn the water on full blast. it should pull the water down quick. Also as stated before check all the coolers after the pump for impeller blades.

The pump will suck air or water whichever is easier. SInce air is lighter... I have had this same problem. Fix the leaks and seal the system. Back flush as well.

the plastic housing on the seawater pump is labled for LH rotation. You have to look at the backof the houseing and compare it to which way the pully rotates. Theres an arrow and corresponding in/out lables on the inlet/outlets.....
If you pump happens to rotate the opposite way then installing the hoses on the pump according to lables would be backwards and thus wouldnt work.....give it a quick look to verify your buddy's work....just tell him you want to check for your own peace of mind before you go crazy looking everything else over!

Either the hoses are on the sea pump backwards or the thermo is upside down.
