Don't laugh! When I trim the drive the tach jumps about 1000 RPM's. As soon as I release the button it's back to normal. More recently my voltage gauge pins to the max reading as soon as the ignition switch is turn on and stays there. Any ideas?

BOY, you'll get a lot of post's on this one. First off it sounds like you have a ground problem either at the dash or at the trim pump. Check to make sure your trim pump is grounded good at the pump and at the motor or battery. Then make sure your grounds up at the dash are clean and tight. Now, as for the volt gauge, I have seen these short out before. Best thing to do is to get a meter and check the voltage right at the + post on the back of the alternator. If this is 13 to 14 volts the gauge has shorted to ground. Also look at the back of the gauge and make sure that none of the wires are touching another on another post, or make sure there are no strings of wire sticking out of the wire connector touching another wire or post.

Thanks! Will check the pump ground, I did have some problems with that in the beginning of the season. As for the volt gauge, I already check the alternator and that is normal. When it pins like that is it a short to ground or not properly grounded?

It usually means short in the gauge to ground or loss of ground. Like stated before, check all wires on back of gauge before you condem the gauge.
