Re: Pushrod lengths for AFR Heads
I have a friend that builds race engines for a living. He is presently supplying a Busch team and some CASCAR teams with engines. He built me a 400 SBC for my Wellcraft and he said that the latest thinking on pushrod length is for the roller tip to travel as little as possible as the valve opens and closes regardless of where on the valve stem this occurs. He has a special tool he made up that replaces a spring retainer that has a dial indicator positioned to measure side to side travel. I used a checking rod and machinist blue on the valve tip to find the least amount of movement as his tool didn't fit my heads.

Re: Pushrod lengths for AFR Heads
I used an adjustable pushrod yesterday and checked both intake and exhaust and the results were:
7.80 - 7.85 on the Intake marks the valve stem just about the same - right in the middle (actually the best was like 7.82ish) so I ordered a set of each.
The Exhaust can actually use the 8.68" P-rods that I have now but the mark is just barely over on the intake manifold side so I ordered a set of 8.70".
