The needle and seat is under the flat head screw on the bowl. A 5/8 wrench fits the nut to adjust the float level and will unscrew out to see if any trash is in it .

A lot of the time when ya take it out the needle and seat the trash will stay in the cavity in the float bowl . It will be very small like a grain on sand , a picse of Teflon tape or even a pieces of the stainless steel hose inner rubber hose they do determinate, been there

tap here

this is the neddle and seat. bad pick though

I am going to pull the needle out and give it a good blow !
I don't think tapping it will work, since I had already loosened up the bowl and jiggled the float.
No luck there.

Thanks.

Isn't there some kit you can put on to prevent the power valves from being trashed during a backfire? I thought I read somewhere that these had been out for a few years (maybe not in 97) and most folks were putting these on their carbs.

Ah-Ha!
Found the culprit this weekend.
Apparently, for some unexplained reason, the float in the bowl was filled with fuel.
No floaty!
Not having a spare float on hand, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the float to get the fuel out.
Reassembled everything and presto, it worked, for about a day. Sunday was repeat the draining of the bowl again.
Today, it's off to the parts store for new floats and gaskets.

Thanks for everyones input!
