US1 Fountain

Fountain utilizes both pumps. Maybe you guys need to step up to the plate and get a real boat.

haven't seen too many fountains chine walk alot of velocities though esp the 32s

as for hooking both up fountain and sonic both have been known to but you have to use a metering block / propositioning valve

I'm running a sonic 31ss with the 454 carbs. So, currently no belts on the port steering pump. The port steering pump hoses are just connected together rather than connecting to the steering.

The shop agreed that it was their doing after seeing the problem and are ordering me a new hose, not sure if it will be here by the weekend. If need be, I'll take the hose of the port motor to get me running.

Running two pumps to one steering is a great idea......

What exactly is a metering block / propositioning valve and where would they tie in???

Here's a hydraulic schematic that Latham send me when I did my system. Latham calls it an 030 valve, others call it a proportioning valve. It supplies pressure from one pump until that pressure is removed, then switches to the other pump. Both pump outputs tie into it, and the output goes to your filter, and then to the helm.

Call Latham, they can set you up.

One other fitting you'll need - the return from the helm comes back to a tee fitting, and branches off to both PS coolers for the return circuit on the pumps.

I am converting my twin outboard boat to twin Bravos. I have cable steering and twin engines. There are no funds yet for hydraulic steering.

I have attached the steering cable to the power steering ram mounted on the Bravo transom assembly. I have a second power steering ram and the port engine also has a power steering pump fitted. Is it just a matter of hooking it up, or do I also need a proportioning valve?

Pull the port ram off and use just the starb Saginaw valve. If you plan on running both pumps (recommended) then you'll need a simple proportioning valve or two one way valves into a "T".

External steering isn't much safer than internal if you only run one pump. If you ever lose a pump (or the motor driving it) at speed you'll know what I'm talking about.
