sunny day, boating
shift from neutral, nothing happens, no noise, shift cable fine, working at motor, do I have to drop drive now to check? anyone know what the cable going to the drive attaches to in the drive? thanks in advance!!

Do you have reverse? If you have nothing thats not good. As you already know, start the engine and look over the back of the motor and see if the input shaft is spinning with the coupler on the engine. If it is, its time to pull the drive. The lower shift cable attaches to a shift arm which is attached to another shaft with the shift fork. Do you have any resistance when shifting? You may have broken a shaft if everything else checks out.
