New 540's

I am repowering and i think I am going to purchase motors from Derebery out of Texas. We are ironing out the details. The motors are supposed to be 670 HP with 700 ft lbs of torque. The motors are going in my 93 Cafe with Bravos. Has anybody had any dealings good or bad from Derebery? They seem to be realy good to deal with. Also any comments on running the Bravos and for how long. How about speed?

I have met Leon Derebery and have spoken to him on several occasions, mostly during the Dallas Boat Show. I have been to his shop in Pottsboro, TX.
He is a very nice guy and is always willing to give advice about engine build-ups and such.
However, I have never purchased an engine from him or had him do any engine work for me.
I can tell you this: He has a great reputation here, around Lake Texoma. I have never heard any bad stories about him or his business.

Do a search on OSO. There has been talk about Derebery before. I don't remember what the consensus was.

Personally, I would be careful buying custom engines from ANYBODY that is a couple thousand miles away. My friend bought an outdrive from Derebery. He had a problem with it and they made good on it. The problem is the down time involved while waiting for shipping. My .02

I agree with Dave M. The distance factor is a tough problem. I built my 540 by myself, it turned out great. If you dont want to do that, get someone local to do it for you. You are in Connecticut, there are a few really good builders on Long Island. At least that would be more local for you. The worst case scenerio is you can drive to his shop and launch it thru his window if you are not happy..

I would definately be concerned with bravos behind a heavy boat with that kind of power

XR's should be able to handle that power...just make sure you prop it as high as you can rpm wise.
If your running 4 blade props have them thinned out quite a bit so they have some flex/slip.

Have to agree with dave and everyone distance should play a huge factor in deciding who to buy from there are a lot of really great builders here on the east coast find someone fairly local !!!!!!!
