Default Transom Mount Transducer Install Secrets Needed

I tried to replace my SIMRAD GPS with a Standard Horizon 175C and of course the transducer change required differetn holes in the transom.

The Standard GPS was a bad choice and I took it off boat and returned to supplier (another story). We glassed in the holes and glassed over the entire area to prevent any water intrusion.

I'm thinking about another GPS with another different transducer and of course different mounting scheme.

Has anyone "invented" a slick way to mount the transducer without drilling more holes. I'm thinking some sort of mounting block on transom so no matter what 'ducer they have I'm not drilling into transom.

Would appreciate any idea's.

Talking Re: Transom Mount Transducer Install Secrets Needed

About the best alternative I can think of is to mount a piece of starboard to the transom, say a 4"x3"x1/2" with 4 screws. This way if you ever have to change the transducer you can make another piece with the same bolt pattern as the first and re use the same holes. Then all you got to do is mount the new transducer and your done.Just make sure you mount it low enough or make it big enough because not all transducers are the same when it comes to the mounting height.

Hope this helps ya!

I can make you an Aluminum mounting bracket if you send me a paper tracing of the bolt pattern along with the new bracket pattern. Can even anodize it for you.

Starboard is great stuff---the only way to glue it is to use special adhesive along with heat and pressure. Same thought I had--just not do-able especially with the bottom paint on transom.

Is there a way to buy a blcok of fiberglass-like material and bond that to transom.

Goal is to get a place that will let me change transducers without drilling more holes in a 20 year old transom. Every transducer has a different hole pattern and/or location requirement.
