Default TRS gimbal question

Is there a difference between TRS gimbals depending on the year manufactured?

Not that I am aware of, other than the thru-transom steering arm and it's mating pivot pin went from the original splined connection to square in later production. --- Jer

Both the arm and gimbal ring went from spline to square, but not at the same time. So you can have a spline/spline, spline/square, or square/square upper swivel pins with corresponding arm and ring.

You got it and the Square/Square is the best out of them all. The Spline units were much weaker. I just swapped out a spline spline unit on my Donzi because I did not want to have to worry about it.

Hmmm, never heard that before. I though they switched to square because the splines had a bad habit of freezing in place.

I believe I have one with splines, and one with square/square steering. I will not be putting a lot of HP through them. I was just making sure the dimensions are the same before i plan to install them. can you change the bellhousing to the square/square configuration or do you need everything to switch over. I picked up the transom assembly for $100 with low hours.

I was told that they crack were the pin was. The splines are also scary because if they get loose they can strip easier.

As long as everything is tight you should be fine. You can swap out only the Gimbal, pivot pin, and tiller arm. You do not have to swap out the housing.
