help me build a car 454 motor for my nova
Ok, just got a 454 block and need help on what parts to put in it.
The block is getting bored .060 over, the crank is .010/.010
Im putting it in a 72 nova, and would like it to be pretty damn fast, without breaking the bank. Ive looked at the kits on summitracing.com and trying to figure out what cam/rebuild kit combo to get.
It has a muncie 4 speed, dont know what else you need to know, but im all ears. I dont mind running 93 octane all the time.
the kits i see are 9.78/1 with forged aluminum pistons, and 10.37/1 with the hyperteutic pistons. Which one of those and what is a cam recommendation?
Thanks
Jason

Here is a test engine spec from the book "Big Block Chevy Performance" Test engine B
468 CID 4.309x4.00
10:1 Compression
pocket ported oval port heads ith 117cc chambers
Weiand 8013 intake
830 cfm holley
MSD 6T
Comp Cams 292 hydrolic cam 244/244 duration at .050 lift 110 lobe seperation
RPM CBT CBHP
2500 424 202
3000 499 285
3500 506 337
4000 505 385
4500 511 437
5000 507 482
5500 481 504
6000 421 480
That seemed to be a pretty ecinomical build. But I am sure those numbers will vary depending on prep and what dyno were used

Builds for those engines are all over the magazines. Do you know anyone with issues of Hot Rod, Chevy High Perf, Car Craft etc ? As mentioned above the Performer RPM Airgap is hard to beat in general. As far as oval vs rect, depending on usage and rpm range I wouldn't necessarily rule out rect. ports.

Since your going 60 over you might want to thing about a 4.250 crank and make it a 496. My son has one with dual quads in a 69 short bed pu with a 700R4 and 373 gears
