HYDROCRUISER You were correct, both the oil temp and oil pressure senders mount off of a tee, coming out of the block by the oil pan rail right in front of the oil filter pad. In my poinion the wrong place for both of those senders. I would rather have the pressure sender at the farthest possible location from the oil filter pad, so the reading you are getting is the lowest anywhere in the system, not the highest. Same with the temp sender, I would rather know my highest temp in the system, not the coolest coming right out of the cooler. I do have the Merc Racing remote filter mount, but I believe the thermostat for the oil cooler is mounted in the filter pad housing, the only thing in the remote filter mount is a bypass valve in case the filter plugs or can not flow all the oil being supplied. I know I will be putting a bung and sender in the pan the first time that block comes out.

My oil temp sender is in my oil pan and it runs a constant 300 degrees at wide open throttle .I have a formula 3,11 that was built as a 60 mph boat . Now I run 80 and have huge coolers by hardin marine . I was told to plug the top 2 holes on the outdrive because now im probably sucking air and the oil is not cooling in the cooler . Also does it matter which direction the oil and water flow thru the cooler . I ran my boat almost 50 miles between 70 and 80 MPH hot oil temps yes . 65 lb of pressure and the oil looks great . Mobil one of coarse synthetic .Could plugging the out drive holes help ?

You always want to try and run the oil in the opposite direction as the water flow. This way you will get the best cooling available.
