Default Bravo Ratios

What is the difference (I know the gear ratio) between a 1:50 bravo and a 1:36 bravo? Performance top end low end? What?

Really the only reason to go to 1.36 is if you run out of prop wiht the 1.50. If you need much more then about a 32-34 pitch prop it's time to step up.

I respectfully disagree. Some hull, drive prop combinations will work better and get higher speeds with 1.36, some with 1.5, some with the 1.8's. My older formula 311 picked up 4-5 mph with the 1.36 gears and smaller pitch props. Theres also some talk that the 1.36 gears are stronger. Cant answer to that. I would break shafts.

There are some instances when a boat likes something diffrent, I was just explaining the reason that most people make the change.

I read somewhere that props with pitches in the low twenties are supposed to be the most efficient. Could be a reason to change gears-

Back in the old days, I was told by Merc that the the standard 3 blade Mirage at 25 ptich had the greatest efficiency. Dont know if that holds true anymore with all the improvements made in design and manufacturing. Heck, when I was involved in hydroplanes, we all used 2 blades.

I still run a 2 blade on my Hondo T-deck, I don't ever pull a skier with it though it's just for hot laps.
