2006 525/600 head bolts
Merc just issued a service bulletin on a small # of these engines. The head bolts have an anti-corrosive coating that is flaking off and causing the bolts to loosen. Fix is to replace these with new bolts without the coating. Doesn't seem to be a big deal,we have a few engines in the group. Talked to a friend and customer today. He said he really did not want anyone messing with his engines, which includes pulling the tailpipes and headers, coolant resovior, and valve covers to install new head bolts. His idea is he has had no problems and does not want to do the upgrade. It's his boat, guess it is his call. My question is,I guess,is all this really necessary? Merc will pay 5 hours per motor, that's no problem. How big a deal is this? What should I tell him? Will he have a failure down the road?

Is he willing to take a chance later on down the road if it does blow a head gasket , Its his baby .It could do more damage if he ran it after it blows . Thats if they do loosen???
If It was me I would let them do it But I would watch over the guy doing it .
