Default Tach lead output

Does anyone know what comes out of the tach lead from the enginge. Is it a square wave, pulses?, What voltage peak to peak? Frequency, does it send one pulse per revolution or per firiing of the inividual plugs?

If it is a pointless distributer it should be a square wave, one per cylinder.
