Is there a difference between 305 and 350 vortec heads? Some people offer the casting numbers,is one better than the other? what is the better ones? I want to be familiar with these heads before i spend money and buy something that is not good.

i think they have a differant chamber size.you cant interchange them because it changes the compression ratio.i might have a set for a 5.7 here.chris

Don't know the difference, but there is one thing to keep in mind....the Vortec head has a limited valve lift capability. It's something less than .500". The top of the valve guide has to be machined to higher or else the spring retainer hits the guide.

There are different castings some of them are super, others are good. I don't what vehicles or engines came with which. I do know that you can't just pull a vortech head and get a good casting. GM sells them over the counter for only a couple of hun. That's proably the best way to go.
