Looking at an '89 boat with a 454 Mag. If the drive is an Alpha I probably won't touch it.
Can someone confirm with this crappy pic? Thanks!

a 454?...that pic looks like a twin engine set-up...and an alpha drive...if it's a big block/alpha combo....walk away, far away...
..my rumrunner has a pair of small blocks, alphas, and is relatively light....a nice set up.
...the deceleration and torque of a bb will eat an alpha..especially if the boat is a bit heavy...
c
..don't go for the "if you go easy on it...." thing

Chit!
Thougth I found a boat that would satisfy the family and my need for speed, but I'm not willing to eat outdrives in the process.

Hard to tell from the pic, but my memory tells me Mecruiser only offered that combo one year in 1988? The engine they called a MAG was not 365hp. ANYONE?

Looks like they offered it 86-88... not sure of the hp rating on it though... look for 454 mag alpha.

If memory serves it was only offered in 87. Mercury quickly realized the mistake they made, and pulled it the year after. To make this boat a good deal, you would have to take 15K off the price and use it to have the transoms and drives replaced with bravos.

I rode in a similar Kavalk 29 off Long Island, and she run about 60mph. But the Kavalk's pretty heavy and I wouldn't think I'd be out flying her between waves. Anybody think she's still worth looking at for use off the coast of SoCal and Havasu? Thanks again! Dave
