Been here done that.
Pull the back cap off and inspect the detent ball,
All I did was clean it all up and regreased. Local dealer had a 10 day back order on them so this was just to get me by, three or four years later I still have the replacements in the garage shelf

Done the same with mine this year. You would darn near break your hand to shift it. I pulled the back plate off along with dentent ball and shifting linkage. I took a round grinding stone on a die grinder and smoothed where the dentent ball rides on the recessed area of the shifting linkage. Greased it up and works like butter now.
