I was a big fan of Betty Cook and her race boat back in the early 80's. Because of this I also bought a 1980 KAAMA SE 37'7" Wellcraft in 1997. The boat was all black and I love the name "KAAMA" and my intent was to put that name in big print on my Wellcraft just like Betty Cook's race boat, but the boat needed way more work than what I was prepared for and I sold it. So, when I bought my 32' Active Thunder I was bound, and determined to put "KAAMA" on the side.
Betty Cook used to race in Saugatuck, Michigan back in the early 80's or so, and some friends and I would drive up to Saugatuck from St. Joseph, Michigan which is only about 40 miles away, and watch the offshore races that were held in Saugatuck at Coral Gables. Betty was quite a woman and I had a lot of respect for her. She was supportive in making offshore racing more of a spectator's sport by having part of the race course brought in close to shore so fan's, spectators, and on lookers could see the boats, and view the action.
Hey Dyno---wasn't that fun when I was running circles around you this past summer on Grand Traverse Bay???
