Re: dyno numbers
answer to that would be that the flow bench gives you flow numbers at fixed settings... in a running motor you have all manner of dynamics going on in the inlet tract not to mention the simple inertia of the column , the reversion harmonics from the valve openings etc etc.... none of which any of us are smart enough to deal with in an elemental sense as a calculated result. best to limit the variables to knowable and empirically changeable items that can be real world tested on the combination as it sits on the dyno that day...
wondering about plenums ? make one w/ a spacer that you can change out to change the volumes and test them. wondering about the length of the tracts ? make one that you can change the lengths and diameters on and find out...
you will be amazed at what the numbers will do vs f what you might intutively expect.... we used to keep a baseline engine to run just for that reason... individual component testing...

Re: dyno numbers
TC,
Another thing to keep in mind would be reversion pulses in the intake, and harmonics. We were have some problems on an engine at about 9,500 RPM or so, after testing we were able to move the harmonic problem outside of the RPM band.
Cstraub,
Dam you've been a bunch of places...
Merry Christmas.

Re: dyno numbers
Chris,
I hear ya. Spent all day on the dyno playing with Pontiac stuff on Tuesday, now a few days off. Then down to Daytona to do some track testing after the first of the year, then back up to Charlotte to dyno test some Ford stuff.
Take care,
