Gen 4 heads on a Gen 5 block

Re: Gen 4 heads on a Gen 5 block
I don't think the 1037, or 1047 are stainless . I think they are automotive. I know the 17048 is marine, and is for a 4.5 bore. You will loose apx 4-6 cc's if put on a 454 . I think the gasket you need is a Felpro 17046 but check first. Summit sells them.
Actually looking through the Felpro marine catalog, I noticed all Felpro Marine gaskets are 17000 series, whether it be a Ford , Chevy, Chrysler, 4,6,or 8 Cyl. Did you check if there is a Cometic gasket for this application ? What are you trying to do ? Are you trying to go to large oval heads or rectangle, from peanut port ? BBB

Re: Gen 4 heads on a Gen 5 block
Fel-Pro 17048 is for the 502 and 17046 is for the 454. Gaskets needed to swap Gen IV heads to a Gen V or VI block. The coolant holes are blocked on these gaskets to re-direct the water flow to the exhaust side of the heads. If you use the stock Gen IV or Gen V heads gaskets on a Gen V block with Gen IV heads you will over heat the motor. "Been there done that". Gen IV heads have water passage ways on the front and rear of the heads where Gen V & VI heads do not. Fel-Pro made these gaskets special for this reason. So people like us can do stuff like this.

Monkey,
Since I work in the marine business, building engines, and this is a common question, I am going to post my phone number, as others will probably view this thread in the future.

17048 Gasket is the same as the 1047 the difference is marine packaging.
