Built 496 w/ Weiand 525sc blower...Need advice
Building a 496 out of 454 block. Merlin heads, roller 612 lift cam 114 deg. Bought a blower supposedly off a 525 SC. Weiand, black case red Mercruiser SC insignia on side. I believe to be a 177, has single Dominator top. Is it gonna produce enough for this motor or do I need a 250 blower OR.......????? Help Please!

Boost Is Boost, just Depends On How Much You Need, the 177 Has To Spin Realfast To Make The Same Boost A Larger Blower Does At A Slower Speed, hence Less Heat With Bigger!then Compression Comes Into Play!

I would recommend a 250. The larger cu.in. the bigger the supercharger you will need to feed it. I have used and am a dealer for The Blower Shop and Whipple. A Blower Shop polished 250 kit complete would run you about $3300.00 and then I would give you an OSO discount off of that when the order is placed. The larger blower will allow you to make the boost you want with slower blower speed. This would create less heat and make more power. Your always better to go bigger on blower and drive it slower with a roots style. Thanks,

I have the 177 blowers on my motors, are the 177 & 250 blowers the same height? What horsepower would you gain going to the 250 with the same carb, 1050 Dom.

Ok so now I'm definately gonna buy ANOTHER Blower. The Weiand 250. If I run a single dominator 1050 on top, will that produce any less power than dual carb setup? And, if I run duals, what size guys???

The 177 used on the 525SC is pretty much at it's limits on the 454. The 250 is a great combo with around 500 cid.
I just did some work on a 502, intercooled, 250, with a single dominator. Fuel distribution seems to be something of an issue with the single carb. I doubt you will get a lot more hp out of the dual carb setup, but I bet it would run cleaner.
