This page has a few more options?

I'm curious about this too. I may want to down the road pop mine off to dress it up a bit.
None of the SO installer kits have the required m16x1.5 thread adapter and the installers are like the Mac Tools kit I bought in that the nut that does the work is recessed down in the 496HO harmonic balancer such that only a socket will reach it and the threaded rod protrudes more and more as you rotate the nut to install requiring a deep well socket at least which do not come in a 1 1/4 size that the nut requires. Carch 22!

You are correct the TP1330 kit has the 16x1.5 threaded adapter and I bought it, BUT...... the TP1330 installer nut that does the work is recessed down in the 496HO harmonic balancer such that only a socket will reach it and the TP1330 threaded rod protrudes more and more as you rotate the nut to push on the balancer requiring a deep well socket at least for clearance which do not come in a 1 1/4 size that the nut requires. Carch 22!

I am still sitting with a 496HO H balancer that I can not reinstall

Thanks,

I called SnapOn. Nothing they have will work with the 496HO Harmonic Balancer because of the M16x1.5 thread in the crank shaft.

Rage,
I have not seen the Mac installer, but depending on how long it is, is there any reason you could not just put a spacer, maybe a small pc of pipe, over the threaded shaft to get the nut out far enough so you dont need a deep socket ? I have a couple of spacers I use on my Snap On installer all the time so I can use a big wrench instead of a socket.

BillK,

You know what, last night I picked up a number of different length 1" cast iron pipe unions and fittings from the hardware store for just the approach you suggest. Thanks for the suggestion as to a real world work around and wish me luck this week end.

And the answer is (thanks to Ray @ Raylar)...................

SPX Kent-Moore (1-800-345-2233) installer tool number J-42845 for $266.73.

This tool is not a universal tool but designed only for the GM 8.1 liter / 496HO engine for GM and Mercury. If you want the Kent-Moore puller that is something else.
