Gellner Marine engines are some of the best in the industry and I would highly value their opinion about intercoolers. Yes Aluminum core intercoolers are cheaper than cupernickel intercoolers, but when you consider how much you are investing in a custom built high power marine engine, the extra dollars saved here are just not worth the risk, unless you have money and downtime to burn! With disimilar metals and the galvanic action that can occur even in fresh water Get this builders recommendation, I am sure they have been there, done that with a client in the past. You get to now benefit from someone elses loss and bad expierence without suffering your own loss!

The pictures Strip just posted are the low profile
coolers with the cupra core.
Built in to the manifold.
If I am reading your post right
you say upgrade. Are you changing cores? or entire
intercoolers.
I agree if Dean is suggesting the cupra,s it is from
a durability stand point they dont melt like aluminum
cores. However I have been told that the aluminums
make more power on the Dyno.
Dean is assisting me on my new builds and
I respect his opinion two fold.
I was running these in the Hustler.
These are the whipple cores in the lee chillers

In addition I beleave whipple even makes a double
innercooler. More sq. inches of cooling.
This would be my next chiller. Ask Dean his thoughts on this.

This season we are running Eickerts new copper nickel cores with Blower Shop Billet housings on our 565ci Cat motors.
We have been told by Kieth to expect a substantially cooler charge over our aluminum cores and way better durability over aluminum as well.
We will know in a few weeks!
