Default Intercooler water supply

Thinking of feeding my intercoolers with water pressure generated by the transome mounted pickup vs using another stage on the water pump. Would plumb from the transom, into a strainer with a pop off valve and into the intercooler and back out. Anyone ever had any experience with this set up? Did it work ok? Any feedback greatly appreciated!

That's how mine is setup. Works perfectly. This way water is only flowing when you need it.

Mine is set-up that way. Dustin from whipple told me how to set it up. He is a great guy and good resource. Give him a call.

yeah i was told that it affect the idle when the intercooler is pumped by the water pump. I do all intercoolers from the bottom of the boat.regular fresh water pick-up thru sea strainer in to the intercooler. phil

How far do you normally extend or dip the pickup below the water on transom? I am thinking of doing this also but have heard if pickup is mounted to low it will hurt top speed,Smitty

I have heard that a offshore style speedo pickup will cost 2-3 mph.

Smitty I am not sure what H2O rigger does but in the past I have dropped the back edge of the pickup maybe 3/16" or so
below the bottom. Front edge angled up to be flush or slightly above bottom.

3/16 = perfect. wouldn't go much deeper. Remember intercooler seperate feed. All my intercoolers are natural fed. no water pump. Phil
