Default should I use the old piston ring or get new ones

hello I got a 502 efi with 2 bad rod bearings no harm to the bore can I use my old ring or should I get new one I am running into trouble finding new ones the motor has less than 50hrs on it

id run a dingle berry hone thru it and replace the rings, too much work to take a chance.

Brent,
On a 50 hour engine, I would probably be inclined to leave the rings alone. As long as you were not haveing any type of oil problems, they should be fine. Rings are easily available if you decide to change them You can get them from GM, Speed Pro and Hastings.
I would be more concerned about the condition of the connecting rods if it hurt the rod bearings. Also, make sure the piston pins are not too tight in the pistons, that can cause rod bearing problems.

Hastings makes a replacement ring for the metric style J/E pistons,expect to pay around 200$ for them,Smitty

great I have new rods and pisto an no this was not a trick question goodt
any have a part number b/c my parts guys say that they can not get any that they are metric style an I will have to go to merc. and get them

I bought some from a local speed shop 4 years ago for a guys 502 I was rebuilding,they are in the hastings catalog,just find any shop that sells hastings products. Hastings is a common company that sells parts,sorta like melling or felpro,any performance shop should be able to look it up for you,Smitty

thats ok one more thing on the 502 is it me or do they have a oiling problem on the front end of the block is there any thing I can do extra inside that will prevent this from happen again
