Anyone know anything about Seebolds/Eagles. Have one in my area with twin 454s. 1989 26 ft. Never heard of them. Thanks

Seebolds were manufactured by the famous Seebold F-1/ Champ boat family of St. Louis, MO.
Their race boats are top notch. I really don't know much about their pleasure boats. Seems like they were only in production for a few years.

Oh yeah: This could be a twisted situation. Seebold's short lived foray into the offshore performance boat world resulted in only a couple of hull designs that were actually built at home base. (St. Louis, I believe) Then there were the Seebold Eagles that were built in Canada. They were a totally different critter. Now, it sounds like you may be talking about one of the St. Louis versions. 330 hp 454's, Alpha drives? If it is using Bravo drives and a later than Merc. 330 engine, my guess would be that it is one of the Canadians. There is nothing wrong with either. (there is one of each on the lake here that I have serviced.-- but those are both the smaller, single engine units) Bottom line: Not particularly impressive, but a good, reasonably performing ride with acceptable quality for that vintage. --- Jer

I believe the only Seebold models built in Canada were the 18 and 20ft Eagle outboard tunnels. Nothing larger than that and no I/O boats. Both these outboard boats were also built in the U.S. by Seebold and the Canadian production was not intended for export.

My wife and I seriously considered the 26 Seebold in the early '90's. In fact, we spent an afternoon on LOTO with Billy Seebold in his 34' Seebold going from bar to bar. We didn't buy the boat, but in the time period it was a nice boat.

Jer,
That is interesting. I bought a 20' Seebold tunnel from the mfg (Sidewinder/Cal Glass Marine) in Canada when they introduced them in about 1986. I never knew they produced anything larger. Oh well you learn something new every day.

Obviously this goes way back, but I owe Sutphil an apology. Your post got me wondering so I got together with the owner of the Canadian "Seebold Eagle" and we found that, while his paperwork showed that the boat was originally purchased new in Canada, it was subsequently "altered" by an unscrupulous owner and/or dealer to get US documentation and is actually a Thundercraft, 220 Eagle Offshore, built by Cadorette. Sorry for providing inaccurate info. Guess I will need to be a bit more skeptical of genuine looking documentation in the future. Of course, my friend's boat will remain the only Canadian "Seebold Eagle Offshore" in existence because to mess with things now would only result in either the US or Canadian Customs owning it, a friend with no boat, and some lawyers with a bit more money. And yeah, you sure do learn something new every day! --- Jer

jp,
No apology necessary, that is a twisted story. Now if only my wife could understand that every once in a while, I am right!
