Best Cam to Use with 540 NA?
I am looking at several differnet cams and in fact we may put a different cam in each engine when I put on the dyno next week. Wanted to get some opinions on the following cams. The first is a Crane No. 139651 hydrolic roller and the other is Comp Cam. I don't have the part number on this cam, however, I do know that it has a 647 lift and 288 duration. The engine builder is using the Crane, while Jim V. who is flowing my heads has used the Comp Cam. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It will depend on several factors of your 540; RPM range, comp ratio, exhaust system being used, head design, etc, etc.
It will help to know the flow charactoristics of the heads you're using when selecting a cam. "rmbuilder"/Bob Madara of Marine Kinetics has helped customers select a cam who've had their heads ported by "JimV". In fact, Bob and Jim have worked together several times for this reason, and have both worked together on my project during the early months of 2005.
There's probably several different ways you can go with a cam and still be in the ball park. If you really want to make SURE you've got the right cam for your particular engine/application give Bob Madara a call: (585) 654-8583
