1 trim tab is blowing breakers (bennett)
I'm troubleshooing my trim tabs. Port side works fine. Starboard side doesn't move, but I can hear the pump humming, then it blows a breaker in the dash. Also the 30 amp fuse on the orange wire (supplying power to the rocker switches) gets very hot.
I'm thinking maybe the starboard trim tab selenoid is maybe stuck and the pump is overloading. How do I trouble that? If it is stuck, can I fix it or do I need a new trim pump?

you can troubleshoot it because you have twins and one side works.
You can swap a known good solenoid (or trim ram) over to the questionable side.
Sounds to me like a stuck ram and an angry pump motor.

I keep thinking about this... having been down that road....
I think that if the solenoid stuck the pump would just keep running.
I think that the trim ram being stuck would cause the overloading.
Just random thoughts.
Happy news is that the bennett rams are not expensive to replace and can be rebuilt.

Swapped the lines from left to right- and problem stayed the same- so the rams are good. Just changed out the pump, almost $300! Fixed the problem though.

I know you don't want to hear this now but....... just got done talking with a guy named Tom McGow, director of client services, Bennett marine. Had a few problems with a new pump acting crazy. He helped troubleshoot and talked me through everything by email. Was very prompt. Thought that it was the new switch and sent one out to me immeadiatly. No charge. Also told me that they have an exchange program on pumps and other parts. Did you know that there is a 3 year warranty on most of their stuff?
If you have any questions, troubleshooting or problems, email this guy. Nice for a change to deal with someone who promotes and belives in his products.
