Default thunder bolt 4 coil

Is there anything special about the TB4 coil ? Can I replace/ substitute with msd coil and keep my Distributor and module?

I replaced mine with MSD and kept the old one on the boat as a spare, just in case.

the msd has stronger current which translates to better burn

On my 383 I swapped the Tbolt coil that I was told was a 40,000 volt coil for a Jacobs 60,000 volt coil. It looks nice but did little to nothing for performance, 90% of the engines just do not need the extra zap. Tbolt is pretty decent setup don't let anyone BS you.

If you use an MSD coil make sure it is the 'high vibration coil' or it will not last long. The only time a coil change will help performance is if the old one was weak.

Like my Uncle Melvin use to say "You don't need a forest fire to light a cigarette, when a match will do".
