Push or pull fuel through the stock merc canister filter? 172 gpm mechanical pump. Running dual 750's w/ a blower. I've always heard you should push through. Is that correct? Thanks.

Most all setups have the filter before the pump be it manual or electric, makes a lot of sense would rather have the engine die from an air leak or have a bilge full of fuel?????

If you're running a mechanical pump, I'd pull it through.
Since most electric pumps have limited suction capability, that's why they have to mounted as close to the tank as possible, then the filter has to be pressurized.
