460 Ford breaks up at high rpm.
460 ford breaks up (misses, spits) on full throttle or over 4000 rpm. Engine is completely remanufactured with 5500 rpm comp. cam, high rise and 750 edelbrock carb. No elect. ignit. yet, dwell at 30 deg., timing at 15 deg. at 800 rpm. Prior to new remanf. engine, it would run out at 4800 rpm. I am lucky to see 4200 rpm today before spitting. Take off is good, just breaks up over 4000 rpm. Once in awhile when I run it up until it spits and back off the throttle and hit it again, it will run out with no spitting for a brief period. Also, when I rev it in the driveway off an idle to over 5000 it seems fine but when I back off to 3500 and re-rev quickly it seems like it starts missing and will not do a clean rev back over 4000 and the spitting begins. Once it idles for a few seconds it is fine again - for one rev. only
