Default 525sc rebuild questions

Hi, I am about to tear into my 525sc for a rebuild and I have been doing some research as to what would be good to do while I have it apart. I have decided to do a 731 crane cam, whipple intercooler, and up the boost a little as well.

I was also thinking about upping the compression based on what ive read here. What compression do people that have been here recommend? 8:1? 8.5:1? I still want to run on pump gas. Anyone reccomend a good piston to run?

Also does the block have the roller lifter alignment bars in it? I have a 98 motor so it is a mark VI motor, so its a factory roller cam block, but are they in there or do I need to buy them?
thanks

Is that the one that Merc put the small Wieand 177 blower on? Maybe just freshen everything and put a little bigger blower on. Maybe a 250. Then you can run a cooler charge @ same boost or more boost and same temp and still not get into an intercooler.

I know that I had a 97 boat with a 525 SC and it was not setup with roller valve train, it did have the Crane Gold roller rockers though. The 525 Sc is also setup up with the 177 blower, it will handle a little more boost, but then it also creates more heat with the added boost.

Good Luck

I put the same cam in my 525sc. Picked up 50-100rpms. I already had the boost cranked up to about 7.5# before that. I didn't touch the bottom end. If you're gonna up the compression, I would not plan on upping the boost too much.

Mine is a '96 and its a Gen V block. I think all 525sc's were Gen V's. Some made it out as late as '98, but the last year shown for them is 1996 and they are are shown as Gen V's.

there is a gen VI listed on that list. it just doesnt show the years for them. Im gonna have to double check my serial number to make sure its a gen VI motor.

I read on here that some people are upping compression to either 8:1 or 8.5:1. I think I might shoot for 8:1 and up the boost too. This way I get a little more torque when off boost and I wont have to spin the blower up as much to make more boost.

Also what pistons do you guys reccomend? what about rings? Any other reccomendations on what to do while im in there?
