Ditto. Except I attached horizontal 2x4's on either side of each of four adjacent roof truss 2x4's near the roof peak and layed the 4x4 on top of those eight 2x4's. Lifted and reinstalled a fully dressed 496HO with plenty of clearance (~1200 pounds) and not even a creak from the roof etc. No ceiling drywall on mine.

The trusses in the ceiling handle the weight with out any trouble what so ever. And when im done, i leave just that little bit of chain there for the next project.

Default Minimum Wood Dimensions?

What is the minimum dimension for the piece of lumber you would use for the horizontal 10' cross member - 4X6? How about the verticals? Thanks.

I cut access holes in my hull. I just jack the whole boat up & the engines are right there in a cradle. When I'm ready to go back together, 5200 the hell out of the joints & lock-tight the nuts on the carriage bolts.

Well, maybe not.
