Default Adjusting lifters 1/2 3/4 maybe more?

Crane lifters and rocker arms. Got a few noisy ones. Ran the boat an hour to see if they would quite down some. Only have a few that are making a tick a various RPM between idle and 1500. You can sort of hear it if you use a hose held to the ear and rocker tip. I set them back to 0 and then 3/4 turn. Still made noise so I went an 1/8 more on these. Still a little clicking sound. Not bad but the others are silent.

How many turns is the max for tightening down? Might go the max to see if they quite down, if not just back them off to 3/4 and go with it.

I have always gone 3/4 of a turn without a problem.
Might want too start over and make sure valves are all the way closed before adjusting.

I would call Crane and ask them where they want them set to.

Are these new heads / valves /guides.

My buddy kept chasing a noisy lifter, turned out it was a badly worn valve guide, valve was getting cocked on seat (noise) eventually it broke and destroyed the motor.

I would think 1/2 turn after zero lash would be fine for hydraulic lifters. If they are solid then you need to set the old fashioned way

Fresh heads and rockers, lifters have maybe 50 hours on them. Fresh motor, forge pistons, new rods etc.

Crane hydraulic roller lifters and Crane Gold rocker arms.

Just so you know - aggresive ramped HR cams (such as most of Crane's ) along with roller rockers can emit ticking noises that are audubile to the ear even without a hose / stethascope. Very, very normal.

Would you agree that there may be an issue if only one is ticking?

It can get messy, but if you are able to run motor without valve cover on, you can take a balled up rag and cover each lifter in turn to see if it's just one or all of them taking turns.
