Need help with cooling schematic for 496
Hi, Thanks in advance for any help. I am putting a new set of 496 exaust manifolds on a 454 mag, question is how to plumb them correctley. Any ideas? The mag manifolds have a input line on top and 1 on the bottom, the 497 have 2 on the bottom with one that looks like some kind of check valve? Any info would be great.

Re: Need help with cooling schematic for 496
Here you go
I did the same thing this spring. Here's a post with my results.
I learned a couple things not in those two links. One is the 496 headers are taller than my old manifolds. I forced my old hoses on the new, taller exhaust and the cooling water coming out on top of the hot gases was restricted. Net result was burned exhaust hoses in about 10 minutes of running. So I went to the local big-rig shop and bough a couple sections of the right sized stainless steel flex tube. I then used new exhaust hose to couple to the header and thru transom thingy.
Second was I'm damn glad I only live 3 miles from an Ace Hardware - they had all the fitting I needed for the conversion.
If you get stuck, let me know and we can talk.
