Default Bravo 1 question

I need a new lower. I found one on Ebay that is off a 1988 Bravo1 drive. My question is will it work on my 1997 Bravo1 drive? or are they different?

they could be different, depends if the oil passage is in the 88 lower unit. If you look at the water passage, in front of the vertical shaft. There should be an island sticking into the water passage cavity.. In that island (which runs from top to bottom of the water passage) should be a hole with a recess to put the quad seal.. If it doesnt have that, I would pass on it.

Hope that helps
Dick

Boy, that is hard to tell.. I dont think it is there.. It should be right in front of the vert shaft.. Or to the right of it, in that pic.. but that area is dark..

There should be a bump in the opening for the water passage.. it sticks out about 5/8" or so.. and that is where the hole for the oil is..

another thing is the 88 cases were shorter, not an issue with this one because it looks like there is a nose cone on it.. Of course the cone should be on straight.. and I perfer the hydromotive cone.. because of the shape. Ask them who's cone it is.. and maybe a brighter pic..

He said it came stock on a 1988 Eliminator Daytona. He said when he looks down the hole all he sees is the water intake holes on the side.

Will not work with a 97 Bravo upper. When you buy a new housing a sheet comes with it that shows compatibility between different years. If I find it I'll scan and post it.

in my mind the question would be , what are you thinking when you look at a USED 18 yr old lower unit ? thats a mistake just waiting for you to make it.

You are most likely right about that Stevesxm. The thing that caught my eye about it is it is going cheap. All the other ones I find are over 1000.00 more. I guess that should say something the more I think about it.
