I say rebuild your old engines. If you knock the core plugs out and boil out the blocks, you can inspect them and see if they have too much corrosion. If the salt water was kept below 150 f you shouldn't see too much corrosion. Above that temp the salt really starts to eat at the metal. I'd rather start with a seasoned block and rebuild it correctly than start with a long block of unknown quality. If the blocks are too badly corroded, purchase new blocks and build up from there.

Don't shoot the messenger, I agree it is pricey but at least Merc will stand behind it.

Hey Bam, what's your price on a pair of 330hp Mark 4, 454s. One reverse, one standard rotation?
May be doing a cruiser repower over winter.
