500HP Starting Problems
I had my boat put in the water tonight so it would be ready for me tomorrow and the Marina called to tell me that the engine would not start. They said the engine would turn over but not start. This happened to me once before but I turned everything off and then it started right up. The guy at the marina said he thinks its the fuel pump because he could not here it run when he turned the key on. I wanted some opinions before I got there and started to tear into it. The boat ran great before I put it up, but it sat for about 4 weeks. Can a fuel pump just go out while it sits? What should I check for? Is there a way to check the fuel pump? The boat is a 2000 29 Fountain. And yes I had them check the kill switch.
Thanks,
Mike

I would have to say yes because I never close it except when I winterize it, and the boat was running great when I had it out last.

Is it a 500HP or 500EFI???
You won't "hear" a mechanical pump on an HP500. I don't know about a 500efi, but seems to me, it should have a oil pressure cutoff switch also.

Re: 500HP Starting Problems
It is for sure the fuel pump. I put an ohm meter on the fuel pump and got an open reading. Then I ran jumper wires direct to the battery and got nothing. I then reversed the jumper wires to the battery to see if the pump was jammed and could maybe clear it. Unfortunately none of this worked, but did prove to me the fuel pump is bad. By the way a cool fuel fuel pump on a 500EFI is in a horribly place. Once I got the fuel pump out I jumpered again to a battery and got nothing until I tapped on it with a wrench. But the pump sounds like the bearings went out and sometimes would kick on and sometimes would not so I am pretty confident that it is the fuel pump.
