Exclamation Mercruiser Recall (496 MAG)

Just received this in the mail today from MerCruiser (for a 496MAG in a '05 Baja). I'm sure others have received or will receive this, but a head's up for anyone who doesn't:

NOTICE FOR RECALL UNDER THE FEDERAL BOAT SAFETY ACT

What is the problem?
On your model of Mercury MerCruiser engine, a metal clip that holds the fuel damper in place was determined by our supplier to be out of specification and must be replaced.

Mercury MerCruiser has reported this issue to the United States Coast Guard, and informed the USCG that a recall to address the issue has been initiated under the Federal Boat Safety Act.

What should you do?
Contact a Mercury MerCruiser authorized dealer and make arrangements to have your engine repaired. The dealer will refer to a Mercury MerCruiser Service Bulletin 2006-09 for instructions.

Please present this notice to your dealer at the time of your service appointment, and please, do not operate your engine until this repair has been performed as there exists a possibility that the clip could fail and result in a fuel leak and fire.

If you have questions, please contact Mercury at the telephone number identified below.

What will we do?
Any authorized Mercury MerCruiser dealer will perform the repair at no charge to you.

What if you have other questions or no longer own this boat?
Please contact your Mercury MerCruiser dealer or call Mercury MerCruiser Customer Service at 1-405-743-6566 between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM CST.

Wonder if it includes the HO's as well?

Does the bulletin give s/n ranges or anything, or state only the Mag's?

If its the fuel rail thing i think it is, it may be the HO too. It'd be a 496 in general. Trucks too.

It's not really that big of a deal.. Its the clip that holds in the fuel dampner in the fuel rail.. I have to do my 496 too.. ( My parts are on the way ) ... So far I dont believe it affects every 496 , just the later ones from what I was told & yes it supposedly affects some GM trucks as well.. I first found out about the recal when volvo penta actually sent out the notice to our dealership before anyone else.. Jamie / Lakeside

Local dealers are saying the same thing Jamie said above. Doesn't seem to be too big of a deal... but good to know regardless.

Now to just get through today so I can get to a full weekend of boating

If that's the case, I think my late 2004 set already has all the early mods incorporated including the manifold drain thingy; rods; and fuel rail. Bought them new so i guess i would've gotten something if I had a mod due.
