Default Bravo III Gear? & Merc 250 HP?

Have a couple questions...

First the Bravo, just replacing the prop seals and thought I would completly disassemble and check out all seals and gears. Came across one of my upper drive gears, reverse to be exact had on tooth damaged (half the tooth missing) Anyone ever had any luck having something like this repaired? The rest of the gears including all other teeth on that gear are in good condition.

The 250HP 5.7l 2bbl Year 2000
Was going to pull the motor this winter but haven't got around to it as of yet. I been reading alot and haven't come accross a q&a that I would like to know. Is the crank in this engine fordged? Is the block a 4 or 2 bolt? Any more info would be appriciated (ie. pistons - cast, fordges??? etc.)

Yup for the block and crank and buy a new gear unless you can figure out how to forge weld, you will have to be fast or you may loose some fingers.

Thanks for the info...

I sent the gear to a local tool and die shop that works mostly for the automotive industry and they shoed me how they fix gears that break in industrial equipment. They do weld them up but they also heat the part in a controlled oven and then do the welding and machining.

I gotta ask. How much is a new gear???? I couldnt think of a reason to fix one. Buy one on eBay. Bet it cost less than fixing one. What happens if the fixed one fails. (Well sorry man, we gave it our best shot, guess them merc gears are different than industeral ones. Very sorry sir. Good luck with with you drive) (now F off and dont phone again) Hay just my opinion. Jas
