Info on Merc Ace, Nxt, whatever package
Just saw the new Merc 700 with Ace? drive.
Anyone got any info on the tranny in this package? How does it work? Does it have full reverse power capabilities, or is reversing accomplished in the drive?
Anyone know if the tranny will be offered as stand alone piece that could be mated to Speedmasters, etc?

The drive does not shift it uses a trany. You can only get this drive with the 700 package and the Merc reps say they are having a hard time with production as it is. This doesn't bode well for anyone trying to buy components. Why not just get a trany from BAM? they will probably build you a better trany than Merc will offer and you can get one in this century.

Thanks Lofty. I was interested in a particular application where it's size would be helpfull.
I still want to know how it works. ie, can it gofull power reverse. Or can it be used on counter rotating engine.

Nope, cannot reverse rotation. It uses cone clutches (like a Bravo) and an idler gear for reverse.
