454 Mag rebuild
I would like to know if anyone has any estimates on what it would cost to put new rings ( there listed cost ), have the heads honed per pair ( that cost ), repress the pistons because they were tight ( that cost ) and machine the heads per pair and put it back together, not putting it in the boat just to do the engine work as seperately listed on my Mercruiser 454 Mag EFI. Your asking for estimates on costs that can't fully be determined until the engine is torn down. If you're doing a rebuild, there are a LOT more things to consider. Figure 3-5k for a full rebuild done right.

450 to 550 bucks to D&A motor, 125 to 150 bucks a head for valve grind, surface head is around 60 bucks a head, if you need guides or seats that is extra, to press pistons from rods and check straightness and refit around 100 to 125 bucks for 8 rods. to hone block with torque plates around 125 bucks for 8 holes[boring is extra] freeze plugs and cam bearings extra, jet clean block extra. plus parts

You really do need to tear into it to see what you need. As far as price is concerned to have the job professionally done the right way you would be several grand minimum, and with what almost seems as if the sky as the limit if you want to do a lot of perf or power work to it with top shelf stuff & a dyno run at a legit builder with non B.S. dyno #'s..
What ever you decide & where ever you go with it, just make sure you do it right.. Even if it seems a little more $ at first.. Sometimes a little more is a lot less in the long run when it is done right & is problem free.. Also make sure you build it to marine specs with the proper freeze plugs, gaskets and a cam suitable for marine use.. Not all builders are created equally.. Jamie / Lakeside

I would have to agree with Jamie, good work isn't cheap nor are decent parts. Stay away from some of the fly by night guys who have outrageous dyno claims and obscure shop locations,there is nothing worse than paying someone to do something and than having to pay someone else to re-do correctly,this happpened to a fellow osoe'r, nordic95, Smitty
